Obituary for James W Jones Sr.

James W. Jones Sr., age 93, passed away Tuesday morning, September 18, 2018 at his home in Boonville, Indiana. Jim was born on April 15, 1925 to John and Gladys (Fisher) Jones. He lived in Boonville his entire life except for three years when he served in the Coast Guard during WWII. While in the Coast Guard he earned the rank of Quarter Master Second Class. Jim was a 1943 graduate of Boonville High School where he lettered in Football & Track, setting the record for the 2 mile relay with three other boys which was held for several years. He was a member of Main St. United Methodist Church, the local VFW, United Mine Workers and a charter member of the Boonville Country Club where he spent tireless hours helping to build the original grounds and club house. He also worked with Herman Sollman developing the first baseball diamonds behind Boonville High School. He coached baseball starting in 1958 with his last team in 1998, for one of his grandsons at Mulzer field, which he would always remind you were a winning team! He worked as an equipment operator for Hay & Jones Mining during High School, a land surveyor for Peabody Coal for 15 years and an equipment operator at Amax Wright Mine for 20 years, where he retired in 1982. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors. His greatest joy in life was his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Jennifer Ellen Goff; brothers, John & Robert Jones; sisters, Elouise Jane Wrinkles, Marsolie Bristow, Virginia Panomi and a granddaughter in-law, Amy Jones.
He is survived by wife, Doris E. (McKain) of 67 years, their children, Jim Bill Jr. (Susan) Murphysboro, IL; Jeff (Jeanne) Hendersonville, TN; John (Patti) Boonville, IN; Jay Tim (Chrystal) Columbia, TN; and Jane (Jones) Nichols Boonville, IN; grandchildren, Jamie Shoulders (Jonathan) Boonville, IN; Denver Goff Chandler, IN; Ryan Jones (Megan) of Las Vegas, NV; Jessica Clutter (Charlie) Boonville, IN; Zach Jones (Kayla) Murphysboro, IL; Jared Jones, St. Louis, MO; Duncan Goff (Amanda) Boonville, IN; Nicole Reeves (Pat) Plainview, MN; Brittany Buss, Smithton, IL; Morgan Chapman (Dan), Evansville, IN; Justin Jones (Rachel) Oak Harbor, WA; Jayde Jones, Columbia TN; Mason Jones, Baltimore, MD; 26 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Koehler Funeral Home in Boonville, Indiana on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 3 P.M. until 8 P.M. and again on Saturday from 12 P.M. until the time of the service.
Services will be on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 2P.M. with Pastor Greg Pimlott officiating. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville next to our daughter Jennifer, who left us far too soon.
